About Upendo

Upendo Behavior Services is a mission-driven practice based in Portland, Oregon, providing trauma-informed, relationship-centered behavioral consultation across home, school, residential, and community settings.

“Upendo,” meaning love in Swahili, reflects our belief that meaningful support is built through dignity, compassion, collaboration, and respect for the humanity and autonomy of every person we serve.

Our Story

Upendo was founded through years of collaborative work across education, developmental disability services, behavioral consultation, residential support, and interdisciplinary care systems. Together, we bring over 30 years of combined experience supporting children, adolescents, adults, families, schools, residential providers, and interdisciplinary teams navigating complex behavioral and developmental needs.

We created Upendo after recognizing that many individuals and teams were not lacking care or effort; they were often lacking sustainable systems, collaborative support, and approaches that honored the whole person behind the behavior.

As a Black-owned, women-owned, and LGBTQ+ affirming organization, we are committed to providing culturally responsive and inclusive care that honors the diverse identities of our community.
